The Safety Contact Mat ASK
The safety contact mat ASK is used to secure danger areas around machinery, i.e. presses, robots and other machinery with swiveling parts. Stepping on the mat immediately stops potentially dangerous movements of the machinery. Extremely quick contacts are made via internal switching surfaces which are integrated and water proofed in one single sealed unit. Mat surfaces can be grooved aluminium or stainless steel. Special analytical circuits monitor the state of these reliable surface contact mats.
Basic concept of the safety contact mat

Construction
Basic construction of the safety contact mat are two conductive surfaces, separated by an isolation layer. The three layers are encapsulated in black polyurethane, making it impervious to dust and liquids. The top layer is an anti-slip layer which is oil and grease resistant. The two contact surfaces are connected to two dual-conductor leads which are factory-fitted and supplied with M8 plugs and sockets. Floor attachment is done via ramp-rail or an aluminium bracket. A mounting frame can be supplied for level floors.

Signal processing
The safety contact mat ASK has two dual-conductor connections and can be arranged in series up to an area of 10m². One conductor connects to the monitoring unit, the other one to a terminating resistor (as prepared by the manufacturer). The monitor looks at the complete circuit, including the mat(s) up to the terminating resistor. External presssure on the mat results in a contact that bypasses the resistor. The unit monitors the complete circuit for breakages and/or inappropriate usage.
Important!
- Up to 10 contact mats can be connected to one monitor. The maximum surface are to be monitored is 10 m².
- Conductors should not be more than 75 m in total.
- If daisy-chaining multiple mats the terminating resistor must be connected to the final mat.
- Mats with recesses or special shapes can also be ordered.
