Safety edges to secure areas with squash and shear hazards. Applications would be in the areas of machinery, fork lifts, load lifts, gantries, gates, i.e. all manner of moving parts that could cause injuries.

Ease-of-use applications are many, for example start/stop switches for assembly lines, activated by hand or foot. On/Off switches for all manner of systems, such as opening /closing of doors in isolation wards of hospitals, activated by contact with a bed.

Safety edges are used at the closing edges of the moving parts of mechanical systems where there is a high danger of squash and shear injuries: gates, machines, moving parts that may endanger personnel or components. The main components are an extruded aluminium base, the contact strips and the safety contact. The special shape of the strips (made with EPDM or NBR rubbers) protects the inside contacts from damage and has an activation angle of over 90°. The basis for constantly monitoring the proper functioning of the unit is the application of the rest current princip. The last of the contact strips, mounted in series, contains a resistor. The value of this resistor is constantly monitored by the unit's electronics. This enables continuous checking for breaks or electrical shorts. As proof for the safety of the system we can, on demand, supply various certificates from European institutes.

Inside the safety edge is the active signal switch. The signal switch consists of a dual safety edges which are ducted to the outside with a connecting cable. To protect the switching strips and to ensure proper working of the unit they are embedded into various flexible rubber mountings, sealed inside with permanently flexible glue and finally protected by waterproof plugs at the ends of each contact strips. The whole assembly is the pressed into the aluminium carrier.
